How Puchi uses AI

In effect since 9 August 2026.

The short version

Inside the app, AI drafts your budget and answers questions as the Referee. You always hold the sliders. This website does not run AI on anything you type.

What the AI writes

Four things in Puchi are generated by an AI model:

  • Your first budget, drafted from what the two of you said about your month.
  • The monthly adjustment, which reads what you actually spent and proposes a change.
  • The Money Date summary you read together each week.
  • The Referee, which answers money questions for the two of you.

The Referee is a chatbot

When you talk to the Referee you are talking to software, not to a person. We would rather say that plainly at the top than have you work it out.

What the AI never does

  • It never names, recommends or compares financial products: no investments, funds, crypto, pensions, insurance, loans or mortgages. Ask it to, and it will tell you that is outside what Puchi does and point you to an independent adviser.
  • It never decides anything. Every number it produces is a suggestion the two of you accept or ignore.
  • It makes no automated decision that has a legal effect on you, or anything similarly significant.
  • It never takes sides between you. The Referee is built to stay neutral and to talk about "you two" rather than about one of you.

It can be wrong

AI models produce confident sentences whether or not they are correct, and the Referee only knows the numbers you have put into Puchi. Treat what it writes as a starting point, and check anything that matters before you act on it.

How it works underneath

The app sends only what is needed to Claude, an AI model built by Anthropic, through our own backend. Nothing goes directly from your phone to the AI provider, and the key that reaches it never sits on your device.

What gets sent is limited to the job at hand:

  • For a budget draft or a monthly adjustment: your category totals and the answers you gave during setup.
  • For the Referee: your question, plus the household numbers needed to answer it.
  • For an imported file: the merchant name and amount of a transaction, so it can be sorted into a category. Never the file itself, and never your account details.

What protects your data

  • Our use of Claude is covered by Anthropic’s data processing agreement.
  • Anthropic does not use your data to train its models.
  • We send the minimum needed, and nothing is sold or shared for advertising.

If you would rather not

The Referee is something you open, not something that runs at you. Logging spending, your streak and your safe-to-spend number all work without touching any AI feature.

Remembers the choice you make here so we do not ask again on your next visit. Nothing else. This is the only thing that runs without asking, because without it your answer could not be honoured.

Google Analytics, so we can see which pages people read and where they arrived from. Off unless you turn it on.

Google is based in the United States, so turning this on sends your visit data outside the EU under the European Commission’s standard contractual clauses. Google Signals and ad personalisation are switched off, and the cookies above are cut from Google’s default two years to 13 months.

We also use PostHog for product analytics. It runs in cookieless mode and stores nothing on your device, so there is nothing here to agree to.

Whatever you pick is kept for six months, then we ask again. That applies to a no exactly as it applies to a yes.
